Week One NFL Rookie Report and Rankings

Player of the Week: Randall Cobb vs. Cam Newton
Surprise of the Week: Doug Baldwin vs. Jake Ballard

Nothing’s final yet with two Monday nighters to come, but Cam Newton’s performance was terrific (thanks Steve Smith!) but Cobb’s performance was more spectacular and on a larger stage.

As for the surprises, I think Doug Baldwin has this one locked up. He’s small, he’s fast, and I’m assuming that he’s pretty gosh darn smart; see: Stanford. Jake Ballard surprised me with his athletic ability, especially for his size, and his ability to catch the ball. He should see plenty of time as his 6’6″/280lb frame basically makes him an agile tackle. I honestly wasn’t expecting much and I’m an OSU guy.

Week Two NFL Rookie Stats and Week Two NFL Cumulative Ratings

Player of the Week: Denarius Moore vs. Cam Newton
Surprise of the Week:  Denarius Moore vs. Roy Helu

There were numerous contenders for Rookie of the Week: Dalton killed it, Daniel Thomas killed it, Denarius Moore killed it and Cam Newton killed it. Honestly, I think Dalton may have had a better all-around game than Newton, but I assumed that Green Bay would kill Newton, so he gets the nod.
