These have always been one of my favorite collectibles in Topps Baseball and Football. They started out pretty rough in Stadium Club, but Topps has really separated the wheat from the chaff. If there’s one problem with sketch cards, it’s the way that Topps handles artist compensation. Instead of paying them full value, they allow the artist to keep a handful on Topps stock and sell them on eBay. Of course, these things hit eBay well before the actual release.
Chris Henderson has established himself as the best of the bunch by continually putting out amazing looking cards, but that’s just an opinion. Topps has really done a great job of gathering artists that suit just about every taste.
Topps also introduced a far less invasive sketch card design.
